GastroVino singled out the important and interesting events of Armenian winemaking in 2021.
New wines
Armenia Wine Company launched the 2021 with the presentation of new Takar Ruby wine.
It is a ruby port-style wine, unique in the Armenian market.
In February Zulal issued its three new wines of Alpha Collection – Zulal Chilar, Zulal Tozot and Zulal Voskehat (Amber or Light amber).
In December Zulal also introduced Karmir Kot wine.
In June Noah of Areni company introduced its new natural sweet white dessert wine.
This wine contains natural sweetness secured by the veil protection the grape clusters had until the December harvest.
In July Maran company introduced Halde wine, which was stored for about a year at the bottom of Lake Kari of Aragats Mountain at 3,185 meters above sea level and at a depth of about 8 meters above the water surface.
In September Zorah stated about issuing ZORAH HERITAGE SIRENI wine for the preparation of which red Siren and white grape of Ararat has been used.
Awards
During 2021 Armenian wines won medals and awards – in TEXSOM competition, Berliner Wine Trophy, USA Wine Ratings 2020, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles competition.
KOOR White Reserve wine won several medals at Sakura Awards wine competition in Japan.
The American Wine Enthusiast magazine has included the Armenian wine Yacoubian-Hobbs 2017 Rind Areni in the list of “100 best wines of 2021".
Guides
In September, the Vine and Wine Foundation of Armenia published “Discover Armenia with a glass of wine” guide, which presents Armenia’s wine regions, wineries, canteens and other information about the field.
In October, the Russian SWN (Simple Wine News) magazine published “Wine Road: Armenia” guide.
New opportunities
In December, Vine and Wine Foundation of Armenia and German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in collaboration with ACBA Federation launched online sales platform for Armenian wines and announced the opening of a joint storage-logistics center for Armenian wines in Berlin.
In July, the ICARE Foundation of Armenia, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Georgian Center for Agribusiness Development and the Odessa National Academy of Food Technologies launched The Sea of Wine project, which aims to make wine tourism an attractive destination in the Black Sea region.
