Pasta Guide: Linguine - Pesto’s best friend

Armenians love Italian cuisine. And since pasta is one of its symbols, Armenians also love pasta very much. Yet, with so many pasta varieties, not everyone knows its specifics.

To fill that gap, GastroVino, in collaboration with Andaco, the exclusive representative of the Barilla brand in Armenia, will introduce one type of pasta each week.

We begin with linguine.

Linguine is a long, flat pasta whose name comes from the Italian word lingua, meaning “tongue.” With the diminutive -ine ending, linguine literally translates as “little tongues.” It is wider than spaghetti but narrower than fettuccine.

Linguine pairs exceptionally well with seafood. Classic preparations include linguine with shrimp, garlic, and butter, or simply shrimp tossed in hot butter. Another timeless favorite is linguine alle vongole, traditionally prepared with shellfish.

The birthplace of linguine is Genoa, in Italy’s northwestern Liguria region.

Linguine is considered pesto sauce’s “best friend” and it’s no surprise, as pesto was also “born” in Genoa.

If you’ve watched Ratatouille film, you may recall the unlucky main character’s name – Alfredo Linguini. That’s how the creators played off the names of the pasta and sauce.

If you’d like to prepare linguine with pesto at home, visit the Barilla website and check out the recipe:
