The producer of Kataro wines, Domaine Avetissyan winery has presented a new Kataro Rose wine made from Khndoghni grape variety. The wine is of shiny, diamond-pink color and a delicate taste.
In the Armenian market, Kataro Rose is one of a kind mono-variety wine. It has a tender aroma of sundried wild berries and a delicate flavor of flowers and nectar.
“The wine is balanced, with long aftertaste and nice acidity, and it creates a sense of freshness in the mouth. Rose wines from Khndogni are rare in the Armenian market. This is a novelty for our wine lovers. I think our Kataro Rose will find its worthy place in the wide palette of Armenian wines,” Andranik Manvelyan, winemaker at Domaine Avetissyan winery, has told GastroVino.
He has revealed that Kataro Rose was previously produced from Areni and Kakhet grapes in Yerevan before the winert decided to make this variety of wine from Kndokhni grape. The idea first came up in 2015, when Manvelyan was attending a wine event in the U.S. together with General Director and co-owner of Domaine Avetissyan winery, Grigory Avetisyan.
“We tasted different sorts of wines, including rose, and that is when we first thought if it would be possible to make rose from Khndogni. Four years later, Grigory invited me to work at his winery as a winemaker, and I reminded him of our earlier idea. And we started creating,” said Andranik Manvelyan.
The winemaker has shared with GastroVino the secret of the diamond-pink color of Kataro Rose: “Wine color is defined by the pigment in the grape skin. Depending on the grape variety and the wine’s PH level, the color tone can vary from salmon to soft pink. The winemaker's working style throughout the entire process is especially important. If the wine quality is good, it acquires this beautiful diamond shine in the final stage of producing.”
Wine lovers will appreciate Kataro Rose for its delicate aroma and nice taste.
“The very first sip unravels the strong taste of summer berries and fruits. This is the most impressive moment. Then, the slightly bitter pomegranate tones and the freshness of juicy peach come up. This wine is for hot summer days. Kataro Rose pairs perfectly with fruit salads and light snacks. And of course, warm atmosphere and good mood are guaranteed!” said Manvelyan.
Kataro Rose wine is produced in limited edition - just 13,000 bottles, and it is already in stock. It will be sold in Artsakh and Armenia, and possibly, a small amount could be exported.
